This classic 1985 Toyota Corolla Levin GT APEX 3 door coupe with 217,366 km was inspected for a client at USS Nagoya auction on 24 August 2018.

This model became famous in Japan and then the rest of the world thanks to being featured in the Initial D series of Japanese manga and anime, then in Gran Turismo and other car racing video games. See Toyota AE86 Wiki for more details.

This has led to increasing demand for the cleanest and most genuine examples, and therefore increasing prices which are discussed more here:

AE86 Prices on the Rise

This AE86 was a colour change from red to white. Paint was in average condition for Japan, with overspray and cracking evident around door hinges and elsewhere (and left the original colour in less visible locations). Quite “wavy”.

It was fairly modified with aftermarket sideskirts, bumper and rear spoiler. Also fitted with aftermarket suspension (adjustable front), radiator, 15″ Work alloy wheels, dual exhaust and TRD shocks.

Dashboard had large cracks. Aftermarket bucket seat was very tight, and hard to use for anyone of even moderate size.

Auction report noted that the speed limiter had been cut, so the engine check light comes on when driving.

Left side front power window was not working, and the switch was broken and out of alignment.

Interior trims were stained and dirty.

Right side rear quarter panel under petrol filler – paint was cracked. Underbody rust. Boot floor was rusty. Edges of the corner and back panels were corroded. Quite rusty under the rear spoiler.

Past repair history – right front side member, both front fenders, right side baffle and right inner panel distorted.

Paint cracking and distortion evident on the right side of the engine bay.

Also noted on the auction report – boot dampers need replacement, dent on right front chassis, general scratches and dents on the body, crack on steering wheel. Spare key and service book to be sent following auction.

This AE86 was eligible for import to Australia under the 1988 and older rule.

It sold for 1,375,000 Yen FOB, which at the time would have been approx. $22,100 landed in Australia (at 80.2 Yen to the dollar), plus approx. $1,000 compliance allowance, and on road costs.

We only source the best vehicles with clean and tidy interiors, and only vehicles we would be pleased to own ourselves. This is why we are constantly told by clients that the vehicles we source are well above the condition of most others on the local market.

Whether you’re looking for a classic 1985 Toyota Corolla Levin GT APEX 3 door coupe like this, or another year, make or model, we can find it for you.

It is vital when sourcing your vehicle to use an agent that takes the time to physically check each vehicle and looks beyond the auction pictures and report to confirm condition. Some vehicles may have an unpleasant smoke or other odour, rust underneath, or other faults which are impossible to know without inspection.
